Mei Sun: Approximating simple functions on nonlinear manifolds in high dimensions

SCCS Colloquium |

This report investigates the relationship between the intrinsic dimensionality of various distributions, specifically sphere, squared normal (sqnormal), normal, cube, and ball across dimensions ranging from 2 to 50, and the complexity of approximating a fixed, smooth function defined over these distributions using data sampled at random from these distributions.

Guided research presentation. Mei is advised by Prof. Dr. Felix Dietrich.
