Maximilian Graf: Tsunami Simulations with a Total Variation based Criterion for Adaptive Mesh Refinement

We present the implementation of an AMR Criterion on based on Total Variation in sam(oa)2.
Formulas needed and the Criterion itself are shown, their implementation into the grid
structure of the simulation and the usage of the reduce variance algorithm are demonstrated.
Furthermore modifications to the evaluate-refinement function are explained and the different
results of a number of simulations, based on the data of the Sulawesi tsunami of 2018, with
differing refinement and coarsening parameter values are presented. A comparison with
the most promising simulation results and the default one are made, with both positive and
negative observations provided.
