Jonas Witte is a PhD candidate at the Technical University of Munich and is working on the question of how generative AI, in particular Large Language Models (LLMs), can be used effectively by researchers.
His current research focuses on the identification of use cases, their technical implementation - including retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and fine-tuning - and the evaluation of these approaches. A central aspect of his work is the comparison of different models in order to better understand their potentials and limitations. He is also pursuing the goal of developing practice-oriented guidelines for the use of generative AI in scientific research.
He made a conscious decision to do a PhD because he is fascinated by doing something that no one has done before him and thus taking science a step further. He also enjoys supervising theses and seminars because he finds it exciting to accompany students on their journey and help them to develop and tackle their own scientific questions.
Jonas Witte holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Information Systems. He gained professional experience through internships at PwC in the Risk Assurance Solutions division, at Accenture in the Data & AI Strategy division and at zeb in the IT Compliance & Resilience division.
