TUM-SAP IDT Course: Where Academia Meets Industry

Members of our research group, Elena and David, were invited to attend the final presentations of the Initiative for Digital Transformation (IDT) course, a collaborative program between the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and SAP SE. The event showcased how student teams tackled real-world challenges posed by industry-leading firms navigating the complexities of digitization – from breaking down traditional industry boundaries to fostering agile, tech-driven organizational cultures.

The IDT course, a collaboration between the TUM and SAP SE, empowers students to tackle the challenges posed by disruptive technologies like Generative AI, cloud computing, and predictive analytics. Over the semester, teams of four students conducted case studies for companies undergoing digital transformation, identifying hurdles such as legacy systems or cultural inertia and devising strategies to help organizations become “networked, agile, and constantly reinventing” enterprises.

At the final event, the student teams presented their industry-specific solutions to a panel of experts at SAP’s headquarters in Walldorf. The event featured direct engagement with IDT founders Prof. Dr. Helmut Krcmar (TUM) and Gerhard Oswald (Member of the SAP SE Supervisory Board), alongside high-profile leaders from the partner companies that posed the challenges.
