Q: Can I apply before finishing my Master‘s thesis?
A: Yes! The whole application process usually takes 2-4 months. If you want to minimize the waiting time between your master's graduation and starting as a PhD student, feel free to apply while writing your thesis.
Q: Do I need to have done a Master‘s thesis with your group to be considered for a PhD position?
A: Absolutely not! We hire a diverse set of people from different backgrounds having studied among others, computer science, mathematics, physics, or even engineering. Some have done a Master's thesis with us, some have not, and many come from different universities than TUM.

Q: Do PhD students get paid / receive a salary?
A: Yes, you will get a salary corresponding to a full-time position that will make it possible for you to comfortably live in Munich. Concretely, your monthly salary will be set according to the level TV-L E 13 of the German public sector (for PostDocs: option of E 14).
