Dr. Marc Rautenhaus
I have moved to Universität Hamburg. The information on this website is out of date. Please go to my current website at Universität Hamburg.
Topics of Research
I am investigating different aspects of visualization in meteorology, in particular focussing on interactive 2D and 3D visualization methods for ensemble weather forecast data. I am interested in both technical and perceptual issues of using interactive and 3D visualization for meteorological data analysis in weather forecasting and meteorological research. The main software framework for our research is Met.3D, a novel meteorological visualization package I developed during my Ph.D. project (see below and see our page on visualization of numerical (ensemble) weather predictions).

Software
I am the creator and lead developer of the meteorological 3D ensemble visualization software "Met.3D", a new software package that facilitates interactive 3D visualization of numerical ensemble weather predictions and other meteorological simuation and observation data. The software is actively developed at our chair and plays a central role in the DFG collaborative research centre "Waves to Weather".

I have also created the "Mission Support System", a Web Map Service based visualization tool that is used for weather forecasting and flight planning during aircraft based atmospheric research campaigns. I develop and maintain the software in cooperation with colleagues from the Forschungszentrum Jülich and the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt.
